Non-Gaussian Geostatistical Modeling using (skew) t Processes

We propose a new model for regression and dependence analysis when addressing spatial data with possibly heavy tails and an asymmetric marginal distribution. We first propose a stationary process with $t$ marginals obtained through scale mixing of a Gaussian process with an inverse square root process with Gamma marginals. We then generalize this construction by considering a skew-Gaussian process, thus obtaining a process with skew-t marginal distributions. For the proposed (skew) $t$ process we study the second-order and geometrical properties and in the $t$ case, we provide analytic expressions for the bivariate distribution. In an extensive simulation study, we investigate the use of the weighted pairwise likelihood as a method of estimation for the $t$ process. Moreover we compare the performance of the optimal linear predictor of the $t$ process versus the optimal Gaussian predictor. Cryopreservation of Brown Bear Skin Biopsies

Genetic resource banks and assisted reproductive technologies support the conservation of endangered or threatened species. In this study we assessed two procedures to cryopreserve skin biopsies from live brown bears. Skin biopsies were taken from six live, anesthetized brown bears. Single biopsies (n = 3) of each animal were cut into small pieces and assigned to one of the three experimental groups: freezing, vitrification, or untreated fresh. There were no differences on cell attachment. However, both freezing and fresh culture allowed for higher cell proliferation (p < 0.05) and less days to reach 70% to 80% confluence (p < 0.03) than vitrification. Skin biopsies from brown bears can be preserved long term, allowing fibroblasts to proliferate in culture. Slow freezing was effective to cryopreserve skin biopsies from brown bears

La asesoría docente en la formación de educadoras; una recuperación de la práctica

Trabajo que tuvo como propósito fundamental realizar un ejercicio de reflexión sobre la tarea docente, analizarla, problematizarla y plantear una mejora o transformación. En el primer capítulo, se presentan las ideas y referentes teóricos que justifican la tarea del análisis de la práctica docente. En el segundo se presenta el contexto de la Escuela Normal para Educadoras de Guadalajara, lugar donde se llevó a cabo esta investigación. En el tercer capítulo se describe el trabajo realizado en la Normal con alumnas de cuarto grado; en el cuarto capítulo se problematiza la práctica docente llevada a cabo en el aula con dichas alumnas. En el quinto capítulo se desarrollan los referentes teóricos que posibilitaron la construcción de una propuesta de intervención, la cual tuvo el objetivo de evaluar la práctica docente de la formadora y observar las repercusiones que tiene sobre las alumnas. Finalmente, el sexto capítulo presenta el diseño de la propuesta de intervención
